Modded
Return to Main Page
While vanilla minecraft (the basic unmodified kind) is fun, a lot of players enjoy a more interesting experience and thus turn to modded minecraft. Modded (meaning modified) doesn't refer to all forms of game modifications when refering to minecraft. Mods for minecraft are external additions to minecraft; however, client side modifications such as ease of life clients or cheat clients aren't commonly considered mods.
Players aren't often content with only one mod being active at a time as it usually doesn't add enough to make it fun to play. Modpacks were created to fix this problem. Modpacks are bunches of mods being added together in a cohesive way often changing the way you play the game tremendously. Players made custom launchers that would allow others to play their modpacks more easily. The following are some popular modpacks that were played during the peak of modpacks.
This list is based on personal experience
Skyfactory
The most played set of modpacks ever by a landslide focused on automation and starting you off with a single tree and a single block of dirt, nothing more. Skyfactory did manage to have a decent amount of spin offs
- Skyfactory
- Unlike it's successors it lacked a quest book, but did have a public document telling people what the objectives are. The main game was fairly simple realitively speaking.
- Skyfactory 2
- After the success of the original skyfactory the creators got a bit overexcited and made a sequel that was completely flushed out except it was too overcomplicated making it obnoxious to play.
- Skyfactory 2.5
- After struggling to figure out what they were doing wrong when it came to making skyfactory 3 the creators took a break and made a short and sweet modpack that turned out to be more fun than 3 would be.
- Skyfactory 3
- It flopped.
- Skyfactory 4
- With the new updates to old modpacks that later versions brought, the playstyle completely breaks the feel of the prior packs. This isn't to say that it's bad, just not the norm.
Crazycraft
Having more than 10 iterations it was one of the largest series of modpacks with a decent amount of spin offs. The core of these packs were that there was no questlines and it had to have the mod orespawn in it. It was mainly meant to be played by large groups of players on a server together.
Trollcraft
A pack mainly meant to be played by multiple people where you would attempt to mess with eachother. How far you could go was up to the player.
Based around the mod thaumcraft (dark magic of all sorts) you are placed in a world riddled with corruption and your objective is to revitalize said world exploring an intricate custom map with tons of puzzles. There are four difficult areas that are fun to play through.
There are lots of other packs as well, but these are the ones that the most influence on me.
Find a bunch of small user created modpacks on the Technic Launcher
A lot of older packs that survived the tests of time can be found on the AT Launcher
A large quantity of multiplayer modpacks can be found on the FTB Launcher
Most mod launchers can be accesed through Curse Forge, but Curse Forge can also be used to launch vanilla minecraft. Another feature of Curse Forge is to play other games as well as their modified variants.
